We Will Draw Near

By: Vervain
Released: December 2009

Synopsis

Five hundred years ago, the world tried to end.

But unfortunately for some and to the delight of others, it went fairly wrong.

The planet is a rotting wasteland ransacked by hell-bred demons and evils of all kinds. What remained of the continents became loosely-linked kingdoms, full of diplomatic regimes and mad rises in nobilities all seeking the same goal: dominance over what remains of the world.

On the dangerous, forgotten streets of the kingdom of Romae, we find a mismatched street brawler named Desmonde, who wants nothing more than to keep the slums he was raised in safe. Demons prowl the streets with faces of surreal, maddening beauty. Death is commonplace and all he could ask for is for a night of peace.

But when one of those pristine nobles decides to go for a night of exploration down in the slums, Desmonde finds himself saving the life of none other than the son of Romae's very own Prime Minister. Indebted, annoyed, and stuck with the "kid", the two will become inseparable companions through a twisted tale of angels, demons, and the world seeking recovery through the healing touch of unlikely heroes. The choice alone resides in what it means to be human and what it means to sacrifice everything dear and beloved for the shattered world and its misbegotten, chaotic, and self-destructive inhabitants.

Also, flying whales.

Characters

DESMONDE
Brash, impulsive, somewhat lecherous and dedicated to making the lives of the poor easier, Desmonde is an easy going vigilante who finds himself way out of his depth after accidently inducting himself into the kingdom's imperial guard. Despising the wealthy, selfish nobility he is forced to keep company with, Desmonde makes no apologies for being himself. He enjoys slaying demons and eating oatmeal.

CLAUDE
The young, spoilt prince of the kingdom of Romae. Sheltered and unused to close company, he takes an immediate dislike toward Desmonde once the man is appointed as his personal Guardian. Unfortunately for him, his natural curiosity often throws him into situations where he is forced to rely on Desmonde whether he likes it or not. He wants nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps in being a great demon hunter, and studies lore as often as he can.

AMBROSE
The ambitious prince of the kingdom of Grecia, and Claude's self proclaimed rival. Ambrose lives to best the other prince in every pursuit, sword play in particular. Thus far, he has succeeded. His hotheadedness and overconfidence often throws him into trouble, but with a sword in his hand, he is said to be unbeatable. He dreams of ruling over all the remaining kingdoms.

DIONTE
The highly conceited ambassador for all three major kingdoms, the effeminate Dionte may be solely responsible for the impoverished conditioned the lower class are left to dwell in. Proper and selfish, he seems to care only for himself and his social status, yet despite this, he is highly influential. He takes an immediate disliking toward Desmonde, and plans to stop at nothing to have him thrown back to the slums. He carries at least one mirror on him at all times.

CLAUDIA
Claude's elusive twin sister. She is reportedly travelling abroad with her mother. She was betrothed to Ambrose from a young age.
