Interview

1. What are some great tips you can share about drawing?
When you are drawing, remember that you are god, creator of your manga. You can put yourself in anyone's shoes, and watch anyone from any angle or view.
2. When did you first start to draw manga?
I am not really sure myself... I would say around when I was about 6 or 7. I don't really remember too well when I finally crossed over from just drawing to specifically drawing manga.

3. Name the greatest influence on your manga.
I would say myself, music, and my life experiences.

4. Has DREAM been helpful to you in any way?
Dream has been very helpful for me! It has challenged my mind in what it would feel like to be a regular manga-ka. Dream has definitely showed me how my manga would progress if I were doing it chapter by chapter, or issue by issue, and from what I have seen of myself, I've made thousands of mistakes (in my opinion).

5. What was the first manga you ever bought for yourself?
I have never purchased manga in my life—literally I mean-haha! I have never actually gone up to a counter and purchased manga with my own money or own any, because I have a wonderful big sister who buys and owns everything--Kai—AHEM! Although, the first manga that I ever saw was Yu-Gi-Oh!.

6. Name the pens you use for drawing manga and how you use them. If you ink digitally, name the sizes and types of brushes you use and how you use them.
I use blue led pencil or just regular led pencil to sketch out my pages. For inking I use the G-Pen and the Saji-Pen. How do I use them? Well... let's see... I guess I open a bottle of ink and dip the pen that I have placed in a pen holder. I then place the pen's tip onto the surface of the paper and begin to go over my sketches—creating lines of black ink. It is actually a pretty easy process until you get to the part where you place the pen on the paper and begin to mark. Right now I am mainly using the G-Pen. I used to use mainly the Saji-pen because it was easy to manipulate with the way I hold my pencil, but it seems that I can use the G-pen well enough now. I would rather use the G-pen because it has a larger range of thinness and thicknesses though. For toning I do digitally and traditionally (depending on what toning I need). Lettering for me is always done digitally.

7. How long does it take you to do one page from planning to toning and lettering?
I don’t know exactly, but it would probably be one to three hours. If I am really into it at the moment, it will be usually one hour or three, but if I am bored and take the time to get snacks and drinks, most likely it takes around three hours or more.

8. What is the average length of your mangas?
I have never finished a manga in my life, I am ashamed to admit. But from the list of stories that I have in my mind at the moment, I would say that most of my series will be around 4 to 7 volumes—which is about 16 to 24 chapters, unless I’m doing a one shot.

9. After this manga, what type of manga would you like to draw next?
I am only going to contribute to the story and extra characters in the manga in which is going to be ongoing in Dream. During this manga's serialization I'll most likely be drawing a spiritual shonen story on the side for publication. I never really know what I am going to do next until I get to that moment—or at least close to it.

10. What inspired you to draw manga?
I have too many inspirations to list them all, but just to name a few I would say that my older sister, life experiences, history, and other mangas.

11. When did you first start to draw manga?
O.O Eh? Again?

12. Who do you say gave you the most support while drawing manga?
My older sister, of course... haha... Her criticism and jokes is the greatest support for me.

13. Do you want to draw manga as a living?
Yes! From what I have seen, I would love to! Of course, the possibility of success is very unlikely for me. But even so, I'm going to pursue that dream and see how it goes. If I fail I will always have a side job as a trunk card.

14. Do you prefer traditional or computerized when it comes to coloring?
I prefer traditional, because I don’t burn my eyes as much. I already have people telling I need to get glasses. >8B

15. Have you ever tried to promote your manga in any way? Name some please.
I have only promoted my manga through people, although I will be using the world wide web as a tool for advertisement.

16. Was there ever a period of time where you completely stopped drawing manga for any reason?
Yes... school. It is the only necessary evil that makes me pick up a pencil-and instead of drawing-I write down vocabulary, math answers, and notes.

17. Do you usually know the ending of your manga before you begin? Do you enjoy knowing/not knowing the ending?
To a point, I know where my story is heading. I do not know how I am going to portray or end the story to the tiniest details, but I have a basic idea. Without a destination, I don't know where I am heading, so I would prefer to at least have an idea of the ending.

18. Out of all your series, which one do you feel closest to? Please describe it in a few sentences.
I don't necessarily have a series that I am closest to, because almost every series that I do has a little bit of me in it.

19. Have you ever done a doujinshi? Which series was it based on?
Not yet, but I would love to do one of Harvest Moon Animal Parade with my older sister.

20. Which of your characters do you like the most?
It is too hard to choose for myself. XD
