Interview

1. What are some great tips you can share about drawing?
Draw constantly! Even if your art starts out really bad, you won’t get better if you don't keep trying! The more you draw, the more you learn things, and get better at drawing certain things. My brother taught me to analyze pictures to learn how to draw certain things and positions, so reference pictures also teach you alot! What really helped me was drawing fanart, so that's a good way to start.

2. When did you first start to draw manga?
Sometime in 2009.

3. Name the greatest influence on your manga.
Music! I always like to picture my manga in anime clips put to music so it looks like an AMV! Strange, I know, but that's how I do it!

4. Has DREAM been helpful to you in any way?
Yes! It's given me ideas for magazine formats, and seeing all those beautiful color illustrations from different artists always makes me wanna draw more!

5. What was the first manga you ever bought for yourself?
"Game Plan!" by Inkhana.

6. Name the pens you use for drawing manga and how you use them. If you ink digitally, name the sizes and types of brushes you use and how you use them.
When I first started drawing manga, it was digitally through MS Paint (no tablet). I always used the thinnest brush, and also the straight and bendable line tool. On paper, I use BiC 0.7 mechanical pencil (to sketch out the illustration), a 0.23 Pigma Sakura Micron (which I use for inking eye-outline, eyelids, and sometimes small details), 0.5 Pentel Gel Pen (which I use almost inking everything like buildings, foliage, speech balloons, and the people), 0.7 Click Pentel Gel Pen (which I use for paneling, sound effects, and some things that may need thicker lines), and Sharpie Pen (only if I have to!). If I need a lot of black, I ink digitally with GIMP, like shadows, clothing, or hair 'cause the paper I use is thin and bleeds a lot. I do prefer to traditionally color, so if I could, I would use a black marker for these things.

7. How long does it take you to do one page from planning to toning and lettering?
It all depends. I sometimes imagine for days a certain scene I want to convey next, but once I sit down and figure out how I want to draw it, I sketch it all out and put the dialogue in the bubble all on the same day. (I usually ink on the same day, too, but when I do more than 2 pages, then I ink later).

8. What is the average length of your mangas?
I'm aiming for at least 200 pages a volume. But alot of times, it's about 150.

9. After this manga, what type of manga would you like to draw next?
After "Crimson Shadows" (or hopefully during) I'd like to return to my first manga "Bleed No More" (which I am totally redrawing). I'd also like to work on the sister story for CS, which is called "Kamisori No Ha" which is more action-ish than dark. And I'd also like to make a fantasy type manga about dreams!

10. What inspired you to draw manga?
When I first read Inkhana's "Game Plan!" I really wanted to create manga, too! So I'd have to say Inkhana was my inspiration ^.^ It was first manga I ever read!

11. When did you first start to draw manga?
Sometime in 2009.

12. Who do you say gave you the most support while drawing manga?
My brother.

13. Do you want to draw manga as a living?
Oh yeah! Even if it's not the main thing in my life, I see it as a career still.

14. Do you prefer traditional or computerized when it comes to coloring?
I like both. Digital looks more anime-ish though, while traditional feels more manga-illustration-ish. I'd do it traditionally, too, but I don't have money for the right materials, that’s why I use digital.

15. Have you ever tried to promote your manga in any way? Name some please.
I sometimes post the link to it in the "Links" section of forums.

16. Was there ever a period of time where you completely stopped drawing manga for any reason?
Other than periods of laziness or writer's block, not at all.

17. Do you usually know the ending of your manga before you begin? Do you enjoy knowing/not knowing the ending?
Kind of. When I first begin a story and have very little pages, I tend to envision (while listening to music XD!!!) the whole story in anime form, and I usually plan the ending, too. So yeah, most of the time, I know how I want to end it before the first volume is completed. As far as enjoying or not enjoying that knowledge, I sort of do, unless somehow the story takes a whole different direction than how I planned XD!!!

18. Out of all your series, which one do you feel closest to? Please describe it in a few sentences.
It's between "Bleed No More" and a yet-to-be-drawn-series "Luna The Lost Child". Both mean so much to me. BNM means alot, since it was my first manga (though my art was TERRIBLE! So I'm gonna redraw it), and LTLC, though yet to be drawn, writing the outline and plotting it...overall I feel close to it already without even starting it! So 'd say they're tied ^.^

19. Have you ever done a doujinshi? Which series was it based on?
Not yet. I plan to collab with my brother to make a doujinshi, which will basically be the manga version of my Tsubasa/Cardcaptors fanfic.

20. Which of your characters do you like the most?
Nishiko from "Bleed No More". I love her character design and her personality! Second would be Nadeshiko from "Crimson Shadows"
