Use a straight-edge when you need a straight line. Take your time. Plan out your drawing before drawing it. Get yourself some pens. LOOK AROUND. Observation is key in understanding perspective, proportion, and in bringing a picture to life. 2. When did you first start to draw manga? When I was 10. 3. Name the greatest influence on your manga. CLAMP manga. CardCaptor Sakura mostly. 4. Has DREAM been helpful to you in any way? :3 Yes it has. I love it here. 5. What was the first manga you ever bought for yourself? CardCaptor Sakura vol 4 6. Name the pens you use for drawing manga and how you use them. If you ink digitally, name the sizes and types of brushes you use and how you use them. I use KOH-I-NOOR Rapidograph inking pens, with black inda ink. I draw rough sketches of pics in pencil, then do a quick initial inking over the pencil lines with a thin nib. Then, I erase the pencil, and ink OVER the already inked lines with a thin nib, smoothing them out, adding thickness to them, making them look more dynamic and stylized. My panel borders are drawn with a straight edge and a thick nib. 7. How long does it take you to do one page from planning to toning and lettering? Up to 15 hours or so. 8. What is the average length of your mangas? 29 pages. 9. After this manga, what type of manga would you like to draw next? A steampunk. 10. What inspired you to draw manga? Honestly? –sigh-- Digimon. 11. When did you first start to draw manga? ._. didn't you already ask me that? When I was 10... 12. Who do you say gave you the most support while drawing manga? My co-writer, Megan. 13. Do you want to draw manga as a living? OH!!! YES!! YES!!!! CAN I?? 14. Do you prefer traditional or computerized when it comes to coloring? traditional. But computerized is SOOOO much cheaper!! 15. Have you ever tried to promote your manga in any way? Name some please. THIS one for example...DeviantART, Smackjeeves, DrunkDuck...lots of places. 16. Was there ever a period of time where you completely stopped drawing manga for any reason? No. I go through dry periods now and then, but always doodle here and there, even during those times. 17. Do you usually know the ending of your manga before you begin? Do you enjoy knowing/not knowing the ending? Most of the time, yes. I start with a beginning, make an end, and then fill in the middle. Then I revise and make sure everything fits perfectly. 18. Out of all your series, which one do you feel closest to? Please describe it in a few sentences. Blood+Cross. It's about devotion and coping with tragedy, as well as friendship and loyalty, and appreciation of life itself. The characters are all very dynamic and close to me. I can’t even describe to you just how important this story is to me, and it would take ages to explain why it's important. Let's just say this comic got me through some very tough times. 19. Have you ever done a doujinshi? Which series was it based on? I don't do fan comics. But back in the day, I did a short one-shot based on CardCaptor Sakura. WHOO. That's old... 20. Which of your characters do you like the most? Akio Mansai. He also goes by "Rage". He’s my baby. <3 |
