If you make a mistake, and don’t like the way your drawing turned out... START OVER! Don't try to fix it! It's good practice and that's what helped me to get better. 2. When did you first start to draw manga? Back when I was in high school, I was working on my comic. I actually wasn't really aware of "manga" back then (this was over 10 years ago and manga wasn't sold anywhere at the time). I just made comics in the anime style. 3. Name the greatest influence on your manga. THE POWER OF LOVE! Just kidding. Really, some anime and manga I have read/watched, and real life situations. 4. Has DREAM been helpful to you in any way? So far, yes! I've only been a part for a few days, but I'm glad to have met some great and really nice artists like me! :) 5. What was the first manga you ever bought for yourself? Gravitation! Hahaha! 6. Name the pens you use for drawing manga and how you use them. If you ink digitally, name the sizes and types of brushes you use and how you use them. I use Staedtler pens (sizes 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7) but I've been using Faber Castell artist pens (sizes xs [extra small], s [small], m [medium]) I use the larger sizes for clothes and outlines, and the smallest sizes for the details and backgrounds. And I use Faber Castell manga brush pen set (a few months ago it cost me $3.99 but now the price jumped to $24.99... Isn't that insane??!) for the hair and small details for toning. I still recommend Faber Castell. Totally worth it ^_^ 7. How long does it take you to do one page from planning to toning and lettering? Planning can take me days (includes the dialogue, layout, planning transitions) actually drawing the page out can take me 4 hours, but sometimes an easier page can take only an hour. Toning takes 2-3 hours. Lettering takes me 2 minutes since I type them out and I'm fast at typing :) On average, one page can take 4-10 hours, depending on the difficulty. 8. What is the average length of your mangas? I only have one, and this is gonna be a long one! It's probably be the equivalent to 12-15 manga books (or longer, but not too long. It will have a definite ending!) 9. After this manga, what type of manga would you like to draw next? Something completely different. I have a few other comic ideas. One is called "Cephis" which is a fantasy/adventure type of comic. Much shorter, and will probably be only 4 books long. Another is "My Little Marionette" which is a horror/comedy, inspired by the song "Trick and Treat" 10. What inspired you to draw manga? Watching anime and manga... the style is just so pretty and graceful to me (in my opinion, unlike American comics) and I always tried to imitate poses and different manga drawing styles. 11. When did you first start to draw manga? Around when I was a freshman in high school. 12. Who do you say gave you the most support while drawing manga? More recently my close friends. Before, they had no idea I was making a comic because I never really told anyone about it because I was very embarrassed about it. And also surprisingly my grandmom! ^_^ 13. Do you want to draw manga as a living? That would be my dream come true! But until then, it will be a hobby as it always has been. 14. Do you prefer traditional or computerized when it comes to coloring? I love the look of traditional, but I'm horrible with colors, so computers work best for me since I can easily change the colors and fix mistakes. 15. Have you ever tried to promote your manga in any way? Name some please. Of course! I tried putting it all over my myspace and facebook pages, since a friend suggested I should post my drawings for everyone to see. Then I discovered Deviantart and promoted my comic there. Then a friend posted her comic on SJ, which is where my comic is hosted today! 16. Was there ever a period of time where you completely stopped drawing manga for any reason? Plenty of times. I still get days or weeks like that. A few times it turned into months. I'm normally best when I'm extremely angry or depressed, but there were some that I was too depressed to even pick up a pencil. I've been getting better with that since my artwork has improved. 17. Do you usually know the ending of your manga before you begin? Do you enjoy knowing/not knowing the ending? I'm not quite sure exactly how it will end. I'm just going with the flow. I think that's the fun part ;) 18. Out of all your series, which one do you feel closest to? Please describe it in a few sentences. On the Bright Side, since I have been working on it the longest. I'm very attached to my own characters. 19. Have you ever done a doujinshi? Which series was it based on? Back when I was disgustingly addicted to Pokemon, I tried making a few, and drew all kinds of fanart and fanfics. >///< 20. Which of your characters do you like the most? I love them all! It's so hard to choose! But Jacob and Kaylee. They are both parts of me, Jacob is practically the male version of me. I also designed him as my dream guy. And Kaylee is the kind of person I want to be, outgoing, friendly and lovable. |
